Usually when a tooth needs a full or partial crown two or more appointments are necessary. At the first visit you receive a local anaesthetic, the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken. Then a temporary filling is placed. At the second appointment, usually two or three weeks later, another local anaesthetic is administered and the restoration placed.

Cutting edge innovations in dental instruments are requiring less time in the dental chair, less discomfort and creating satisfying results. One breakthrough instrument that Dr. Hipps has brought into her office is called CEREC that allows her to quickly restore damaged and unsightly teeth with naturally colored ceramic materials.

Digital Impression

After examining the tooth and determining the course of treatment, Dr. Hipps will prepare your tooth for restoration. Your prepared tooth will be coated with a safe, tasteless powder. CEREC then uses a state-of-the-art digital 3D camera to create an optical impression. This digital image replaces the physical impression required in traditional procedures. No more long waits while a tray of impression goop hardens in your mouth.

Computer Aided Design (CAD)

State-of-the-art CAD software allows Dr. Hipps to design every precise detail of your crown and customize its shape to exactly fit your specific clinical needs.

Mill and Place

While you wait, exact design specifications are sent to our on-site milling machine and 15 minutes later, your all-ceramic, color-matched crown is ready for placement. Dr. Hipps then fits, polishes and bonds your new crown into place. Your tooth is restored back to its natural form, function and beauty.
